What Is the Virginia State Inspection?

In the state of Virginia, vehicles must pass an annual safety inspection to help promote safer driving. The Virginia Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Program was implemented in 1933 and has been a steady motivator for safe driving ever since. Passenger vehicles, SUVs, pick-up trucks, motorcycles, trailers, and motorhomes must be inspected yearly to ensure the proper operation of all major components. Vehicles that are 25 years old or older and registered as antique vehicles under the Department of Motor Vehicles are exempt from this safety inspection. New residents of Virginia must subject their vehicles to a safety inspection to register them in the state, as well as persons who bought a new vehicle.
