Understanding the Role of Your Vehicle’s Transfer Case

How Your Transfer Case Keeps You Moving

What is Your Vehicle's Transfer Case?

Is your car transmission giving you trouble lately? You may be having trouble with your transfer case, or the piece of the transmission that powers the front and rear wheels. When you notice the following issues, it’ll be time to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic like the ASE-certified technicians at Ferber’s Tire & Auto Services.

Don't Ignore These Red Flags

Are you having problems with shifting gears on your vehicle? Your transfer case may be responsible for your trouble. If you find leaked transmission fluid, it may come from the transfer case. Your transmission fluid can cause a loss of pressure in the system and make it harder to shit from higher or lower gears. If you're hearing strange noises coming from your transfer case, it may be causing other issues in our transmission. Whining, gowling, and humming are all bad sounds coming from the transfer case and will require repair to find the source. Suppose your vehicle can switch to 4WD, an illuminated light on the dashboard, or you’re having trouble getting into or staying in 4WD. In that case, you may be having trouble with your transfer case that will require repair. The warning light will be the clearest indication of a problem with your car and should be taken seriously. Your transfer case can be repaired, but you’ll need to talk to a qualified mechanic to be sure. If the transfer case can’t be repaired, your transmission must be rebuilt or replaced.
