A Common Culprit Behind Brake Failure

Pinched Brake Lines

The Silent Killer of Brakes

The Braking system is incredibly important to your car’s safety. A brake failure could mean colliding with another driver while traveling on the road. If you’re experiencing a problem with your brakes, taking the vehicle in for service as soon as possible is important.

How to Spot Pinched Brake Lines

Your brake system works through a hydraulic system that transfers power from pressing the brakes to the braking mechanism. Fluids travel in the system as part of the process of the braking mechanism for each tire. Your brake line is often a rigid pipe like the ones that connect to the fuel tank If the brake line is damaged, the hydraulics won’t function. To prevent complete brake failure, most brake systems have more than one circuit, which acts as a split braking system. If one brake line fails, the other end of the circuit will operate your brakes. If both circuits fail, you may be unable to stop the vehicle. Signs of brake line problems include a reduction in braking power, brake lights coming on, signs of fluid leakage, and physical damage to the brake. If you find yourself with failing brakes, you should start with pumping the brakes. You’ll likely be able to get enough brakes to stop the vehicle. At that time, you should pull over and then call a mechanic. Generally, brake line repairs are significantly less expensive than brake replacements. Still, you may find that your mechanic may not wish to replace brake lines because of their importance to safety for you and your vehicle.
