The Truth About Tire Wear
Unfortunately, there’s very little you can do to avoid road hazards in your tires. However, you can avoid tire wear over time with our tips. Check out the tips and learn how to avoid premature tire wear.
The Number One Reason For Instant Tire Wear
If your tires show center wear of the contact point on the tires, you may have overinflated tires, reducing the tire’s contact through bulging. Or perhaps you have a powerful car with a lot of torque. You’ll notice center tread war due to torque if that’s the case. If you find that you’re having shoulder wear on your tires, you may find that your tires are under-inflated. Another cause of shoulder wear is a problem with your alignment and suspension. If you find yourself running into curbs frequently, your tires may show curb rash as a result. Curb rash can damage your tires, including cuts and other problems that lead to blowouts. Maybe you notice that the sidewall of your tires is thinner than the tread. Inflating to the correct pressure for your tires will often fix the problem. If you see debris on the road, you’ll want to avoid it. You never know when a dangerous road hazard will cause tire punctures. Cupping wear is often harder to see than common tread wear. Your suspension system may be the cause of cupping wear on your tires. When combined with road hazards, you’ll likely get feathering as well and find wear on tread blocks.
